Plug-In Automated Dimmer SwitchThe dimmer control allows you to dim your lights to preset levels for different occassions in your home. For example, you may have a light setting for a romantic mood, and another one for company for dinner, and another for a party. Each scene can be set up as an event in your home automation computer, and at the touch of a button on your remote control, all your lights will change to the levels you set for each event.

The dimmer control is made to adjust individual incandescent lamps to different levels of brightness automatically.

The Dimmer control provides ON, OFF, DIM, BRIGHT scene and zone control. The dimmer control:

Has a green LED indicator to let you know the control is functioning properly.

Provides a polarized two-prong connector, which is made to be used with two-prong incandscent lamps.

Has a manual switch on the control that can control the dim level of your lamp at the control.

Reports back to the home automation computer the dim level, and on-off status of your lamp.

If you don't need a dimmer control, we highly recommend using the on-off control, instead of the dimming contol. There is a reason for our recommendation. Back when we were testing the dimmer device, we plugged a 900 watt heater into the device. Our thought was to conrol the heat coming out of the heater with the dimmer control. We promptly burned out the control. Why? Because this control has a 300 watt maximum rating. The on-off control is rated at 1800 watts.

There's another reason we shy away from the dimmer, in favor of the on-off, this dimmer will not control fluorescent lights. The new curly-cew fluorescent bulbs need the on-off control to operate properly.

If you are not using preset dim levels, and adjust the light brightnes each time you turn the light on with a secondary remote control, there appears to be a lag from when you hold the button down, until the light comes on. That's really not the case, it's the way the dimmer control operates. If you hold the button down, the light gradually builds in brightness.

Having said all that, if you'd like to dim the lights in your bedroom to different levels depending on your mood, and you use the control properly, this is the best dimmming control we've found on the market.

This product works with our Refined Automation Computers.
